Capsanem or Steinernema carpocapsae is a nematode that can be used for the control of many different pests. The nematode uses a so called ambush strategy. For this reason the nematode is very effective against mobile insects. Although CAPSANEM can infect and kill many different insect larvae, the effect is largely depended on the type of insect you need to control.

Additional Information

Capsanem is effective against soil and leaf dwelling larvae (caterpillars) of butterflies and moths belonging to the family Noctuidae. Examples of caterpillars belonging to this family are Spodoptera, Chrysodeixis chalcites (tomato looper) and Mamestra brassicae (cabbage moth). The nematode can infect both small and big caterpillars. Becuase of their rapid infection capability, Capsanem can also be used against leaf dwelling caterpillars. For maximum effect the plants should be kept moist for approximately 2 hours after applications.

Capsanem can also be used against the larvae of crane flies (leatherjackets). The nematodes are active against the first and early second larval stage. If the larvae are larger the effect will be less, so it is important to observe early presence to obtain the best effect.
