Swiss Chard, Ruby Red 3.5 g

Like its name, this variety of chard looks like rhubarb. It has textured, dark green, red-veined leaves and red stalks throughout summer and fall. This easy-to-grow vegetable not only makes an attractive plant, but is long lasting too. Both the stalks and leaves can be picked while the plants continues to grow. Chard is also ideal in containers.

When and Where to Plant:

Select sunny location and sow seed as soon as the ground can be worked. In mild areas, plant any time of the year. Soil should be cultivated and enriched with vegetable food.

Care, Harvesting and Storage:

Keep soil moist and weed free. Feed every 4 weeks. Break or cut outer leaves off at base when 6-8" wide. Pick and discard old or tough leaves and flower stalks. Store extra seeds in a cool, dry place. Heat and moisture severely reduce germination.
